Danny Johnson was the lead guitarist for John Kay & Steppenwolf from 1996 until the band retired in 2018. His new solo CD "Driver" is available to order, NOW. Danny does an admirable job on the George Harrison classic "While My Guitar Gently Weeps".
Here is one fans take:
DANNY JOHNSON "DRIVEN"
Punchy, heavy, concise guitar riffs beneath soaring melodies—spiced with inventive solo passages—all delivered in a straightforward, no-nonsense style road. That "road" has been a long one for Danny Johnson. I can't list every tour bus he's ridden in, but here’s a small selection: Axis, Rick Derringer, Rod Stewart, Alcatraz, and—the last time I saw him—Steppenwolf.
His new album reflects that long, diverse journey, yet there is no mistaking it for anything other than a Danny Johnson record; his signature sound cuts through
in the best possible way. Even on the album's only cover track, "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," DJ manages to pour so much soul into the performance that you’d be forgiven for thinking it was his own song.
It’s heavy, gritty, and deeply expressive—the emotion simply pours from Danny Johnson’s fingertips.
This is the kind of rock music I’ve been missing for quite some time, and I highly recommend the album—buy it before it sells out!
